Revealed in one of the databooks, Whitebeard was also inspired by people Oda met in the real world! Here are 10 facts about Whitebeard that you probably didn't know!

1. Dubbed the Strongest Man in One Piece!

Even before the death of Gol D. Roger the Pirate King, Whitebeard had been called the Strongest Man in the world of One Piece!

The bounty value for his head also reflects his strength, which is 5,046,000,000 Belly which is the second-highest after Roger.

Not only that, but the Gura Gura Devil Fruit eaten by Whitebeard is also said to be the strongest Paramecia fruit!

Even so, Whitebeard's strength does not only come from the Gura Gura Devil Fruit but also his physical strength. Whitebeard could even withstand a Giant's attack with just one weapon in hand!

2. Mentioned closest to One Piece!

Although this one is rarely heard, Whitebeard during his lifetime was also called the man who was closest to One Piece!

This can be said to be true because maybe Whitebeard is the only Pirate outside of Roger's crew who knows about One Piece and Roger's Laugh Tale.

However, since Whitebeard is not interested, One Piece is still safe in Laugh Tale and has not been touched by anyone since Roger's death. But at least, Whitebeard quite understands One Piece because Whitebeard is very sure that One Piece exists!

3. Former member of the Rocks group!

Whitebeard along with Kaido and Big Mom used to be members of the Rocks, the strongest Pirate group in the era before Roger.

Rock is a Pirate led by Rocks D. Xebec. Each member has a high ego, does not hesitate to kill each other even on the ship.

The Rocks Pirates disbanded after Roger and Garp together defeated the captain. Whitebeard and the other members then left each other to form their group.

4. Never run away from battle!

Before his death, Whitebeard had been slashed and stabbed 267 times and shot with 152 rounds and 46 cannons.

Even so, none of the wounds were caused by an attack from behind!

Not once in his life did Whitebeard escape from battle. Therefore, the wounds he received were always at the front. That many wounds and none of them scratched his back! Cool, right?

5. Ever invited Buggy into an alliance!

Believe it or not, Whitebeard had invited Buggy to work together!

Whitebeard's invitation occurred during the Marineford War where Buggy took former Impel Down prisoners with him. Of all the escaped prisoners of Impel Down, many bow to Buggy's orders!

Whitebeard admits, although Buggy is not a threat, the criminals who follow him can be troublesome if added to their list of opponents. There is no choice but to invite Buggy into an alliance!

6. Whitebeard's tomb is in the real world too!

If usually, the monuments that are inspired by the One Piece manga are statues of the characters, Universal Studios Japan built a replica of the tombs of Whitebeard and Ace!

This tomb is exactly like the one in the One Piece manga, complete with Whitebeard's flag, weapons, and robes.

One Piece fans who are saddened by Ace's departure in the comics can make a real funeral by visiting Universal Studios Japan!

7. His name comes from a real Pirate!

Did you know that Whitebeard's real name comes from the name of a real Pirate!

The pirate was named Edward Teach, who later became the inspiration for the names Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teach) and Whitebeard (Edward Newgate). Edward Teach's nickname is also similar, namely Blackbeard which means "Black Beard".

It can be seen, the name and nickname of Edward Teach which later inspired Blackbeard and Whitebeard.

Not only that, if Edward's name comes from Edward Teach, this Newgate name probably comes from Newgate Prison, a prison in the real world that imprisoned many famous Pirates in the past!

Oda is a master of taking inspiration from the real world!

8. Whitebeard is the oldest Yonko!

Of the four other pirates who have been in the Yonko position, Whitebeard is the oldest Yonko!

Whitebeard's age before his death was 72 years, while Big Mom was 68 years old, Blackbeard was 40 years old, and Shanks was 39 years old.

Kaido's age is unknown but at least, Kaido's status as an apprentice Pirate on the Rocks ship indicates that he is younger than Whitebeard and Big Mom!

9. Also inspired by Oda's acquaintances!

Revealed in the pamphlet in One Piece Yellow: Grand Elements, Oda turns out to be following the waiter at the pub he used to frequent as a model for Whitebeard's character!

Unfortunately, it was also revealed by Oda, the waiter who became the model for Whitebeard's character who died in 2007 ago.

10. Musashibo Benkei-like death!

These characteristics of Whitebeard have many similarities with Musashibo Benkei, a historical figure of Japan.

Benkei is rumored to have a body size that is five times larger than an ordinary human. Benkei's weapon of choice is also the same as Whitebeard's, which is a Naginata.

One of the most obvious similarities is perhaps the moment of Benkei's death because Benkei, like Whitebeard, died standing with arrows and spears pierced through his body.
