The Centurion is a first-generation main battle tank developed and mass-produced in the United Kingdom. The development of this vehicle began as an A41 heavy cruiser tank, and was developed as a new tank that combines the advantages of both a cruiser tank and an infantry tank.

The first prototype was completed in 1945, but did not play an active part during World War II because Germany surrendered before it was put into service. After the war, there was room for development in the design, so improvements were repeated, and it was refurbished to Mk.13 in 20 years until the Chieftain was deployed.
