Faithful Until Death, Here Are 6 Unique Lovebird Facts That Make You Move
Lovebirds can also take bribes, you know...
A lovebird is a bird with a partnering philosophy of love or true love. The name appeared since someone took a photo of them feeding and hugging each other. What other unique facts about this bird? Come on, see!
1. Lovebirds only have one true partner for life
Monogamous birds reach sexual maturity when they are about ten months old. Marriage begins with courtship and can continue for about 15 years. Monogamy is essential to the social stability of the herd and underlies many social behaviors.
2. These birds care about each other
If a partner dies or separates from the herd, the partner exhibits erratic behavior that some have equated with depression. Birds that are often kept as pets also don't like being alone.
3. It's not just humans who can take bribes, Lovebirds can too
Often, after a long separation or a stressful period, lovebird pairs will feed each other to rebuild their bond.
4. There are more than one species of Lovebird
Nine species classified as lovebirds belong to the genus Agapornis. Most lovebirds have a green feathered body and a different head feather color. Their closest relative is the hanging parrot in Asia.
5. This bird comes from Africa
Lovebirds are native to the forests and savannas of Sahara Africa and Madagascar. Fossils of ancient lovebirds have been found 1.9 million years ago in South Africa.
6. Lovebirds are sometimes also called pests
Lovebirds survive on a healthy diet of seeds, berries, fruit, and occasionally insect larvae in the wild. However, in Africa, they are known as cunning plant pests because they feast on millet and maize farms.
