The Ford Torino was a car produced by Ford for the North American market between 1968 and 1976. It was a competitor in the mid-market segment. The car was named after the city of Turin (Torino, in Italian), considered "Italian Detroit". The Torino was originally an upscale variation of the mid-sized Ford Fairlane with a similar approach to the Ford LTD being a high-end version of the Ford Galaxie, which was introduced at the same time. After 1968, the Fairlane name was retained for the base model with a lower trim level than the model bearing the Torino name.

During this time, Torino was considered a subseries of Fairlane. By 1970 Torino had become the main name for Ford intermediaries, and Fairlane is now a subseries of Torino. In 1971 the Fairlane name was completely removed, and all Ford intermediaries were called Torino. This name was one of several that was originally proposed for the Mustang while it was in development. Torino is essentially a twin of the Mercury Montego line.

Most Torinos are conventional cars, and generally, the most popular models are the four-door sedan and the two-door hardtop. However, Ford produced several high-performance versions of the Torino by pairing them with large, powerful engines, such as the 428 cu in (7.0 L) and 429 cu in (7.0 L) "Cobra-Jet" engines. These cars are classified as muscle cars. Ford also chose Torino as a base for its NASCAR entrants and has a successful racing legacy.
