Portgas D. Ace (One Piece) Papercraft Toys by June (J-Cube)
Portgas D. Ace is the adopted brother of Luffy and Sabo in One Piece.
When he appeared in Alabasta, he appeared to be a friendly yet strong person. Smoker, who had previously been able to defeat Sanji and Luffy in the manga, was restrained by the power of fire.
He also then destroyed many ships with ease.
But then he became a figure that Luffy had to save at Marineford.
What are some interesting facts about Portgas D. Ace? Check out the list below!
1. Basic information
Portgas D. Ace is the son of Gol D. Roger and Portgas D. Rouge.
Given that his father and mother had the name D, it was clear that he was also one of the owners of the Will of D.
Before he was born, the babies who were thought to be Roger's children were murdered. Rouge had to sacrifice herself to keep Ace in the womb longer.
Then, after a bitter childhood that made him cynical, Ace also found two figures who became his adoptive brothers: Sabo and Luffy.
After leaving the island, Ace later became the leader of the Spade pirate group, until later joining Whitebeard's group.
2. Entrusted to Garp, Garp passes it to Dadan
Roger entrusted Ace to Garp.
Instead of killing Ace, Garp complied with the request. But from what we see in Luffy's flashback, Garp passed the responsibility of raising Ace to Dadan the mountain bandit.
Garp himself only came occasionally to Dadan's hut, where he fought Sabo, Luffy, and Ace.
Uniquely, Garp seemed to wish he could make Ace and Luffy a Marine. It didn't materialize.
3. Finding Mera Mera's Devil Fruit on Sixis Island
Ace is a fireman. He ate the Mera Mera Devil Fruit. Since he has been able to defeat adults since childhood, this Logia-type Devil Fruit makes Ace's power even more powerful.
The Devil Fruit Ace was found on Sixis Island. He met Masked Deuce, who later became a member of the Spade group, on the island. They were both stranded there.
Uniquely, Ace shares this fruit with Deuce. But because Ace took the first bite, the power of fire became Ace's. Deuce just got the bad taste of Mera Mera Fruit.
This incident happened in One Piece Novel A. This novel itself will be shared by Boichi, the illustrator of Doctor Stone. So if you're curious, it looks like you can see for yourself later!
4. Sabo can compete against Ace as a child
Ace was strong as a child. Luffy admits that he never beat Ace before.
However, Ace's position is more balanced with Sabo's.
In a practice match session consisting of 50 matches, Sabo has won 24 times and lost 26 times. He still loses the number of wins, but from that record, we can see Sabo's strength with Ace is balanced when they were small.
Meanwhile, Luffy couldn't beat Ace at all in 50 matches. Luffy can't beat Sabo either.
5. Come to Wano before meeting Jinbe and Whitebeard
Ace is revealed to have been in Amigasa Village, O-Tama's village. He and his group had strayed into Wano.
Chronology, this happened before Ace met Jinbe and Whitebeard. Even in the anime version, you can see Ace's back is still clean from tattoos at that time.
Also lost to Wano are Ace and his Spade group.
6. Division 2 Commander Whitebeard
Ace is Whitebeard's 2nd division commander. Before he took up the position, the old 2nd division leader was vacant.
The 2nd division leader before Ace is known to be Kozuki Oden.
7. Although rarely shown, he has Haoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki
Ace dies before Haki is highlighted more deeply by Oda.
But he has Haoshoku and Busoshoku. He showed this Haoshoku when Luffy was about to be attacked by the Bluejam pirates.
Ace's Busoshoku Haki is featured in One Piece Novel A, where he even fights Vice Admiral Draw with that Haki.
8. On Banaro Island, Teach says Burgess and Van Augur can't face Ace
On Banaro Island, Burgess and Van Augur try to attack Ace first.
Their attacks were useless, and Teach then ordered the two of his men to retreat.
Teach even said Burgess and Van Augur couldn't beat Ace.
9. One of the important characters whose death is not in flashback
If you are a senior One Piece reader, you may have experienced times where you were sure that no One Piece character would die apart from flashbacks.
Before Marineford, it was as if Oda didn't want to kill characters other than in flashbacks. Pell and Igaram who were thought to have died in Alabasta then appear again. The Shandia in Skypiea, some of whom were electrocuted by Enel, were all alive. There are many other examples.
Therefore, when Ace died protecting Luffy from Whitebeard, the readers were completely shocked. He became the first important character who died not in a flashback.
To make it even more bitter, a few chapters later Whitebeard followed Ace's death.
10. The bounty value is 550 million Belly
Ace's final bounty value was revealed to be 550 million Belly. This was first revealed in One Piece's 15th Anniversary: Dive to Grand World, a mini-book published in 2012.
That's a really big number. Luffy only surpassed that number after he escaped from Whole Cake Island.
Even so, for Yonko commanders, that figure is still below Queen and Jack, as well as four Sweet Commander Big Mom. (Including Snacks that have been demoted).
11. The ASCE tattoo was originally thought to be a typo but turned out to be in memory of Sabo
Ace has a ridiculous nature. This is felt when he is highlighted in Alabasta, where he can fall asleep while eating.
Because of that, at first, I thought the ASCE tattoo with the S crossed out was Ace's misspelling of his name.
The crossed-out S had become Sabo's jolly roger flag when he was little.
The crossed-out S turned out to be a tribute to Sabo.
