The Skyline sedan has been around since 1957, but the GT-R made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in the fall of 1968 and was launched in February 1969. The heart of the car is the S20 2.0-liter in-line 6-cylinder dual-overhead-cam engine, which produces 160 horsepower and 130 pound-feet of torque. The first generation GT-R was known by the code KPGC10 and carried the nickname "Hakosuka", which was an amalgamation of the Japanese words for box and skyline. The car measures 173 inches in length with a 104-inch wheelbase and weighs 2,469 pounds. This car can cover the quarter-mile in 16.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 124 mph. In his first debut at the JAF Grand Prix, he immediately won. The car became available as a coupe in 1971. A total of 1,945 units of the first generation car were produced.
2. Second-generation, 1973
This second-generation uses the code KPGC110, which was offered only as a coupe in 1973. The S20 6-cylinder inline engine is still the kitchen runway, and as the first generation, adopts a 5-speed manual transmission. The car is unofficially known as "Ken & Mary" because of a song by a young couple that was used in an advertising campaign. Unfortunately, only 197 units of the KPGC110 GT-R were produced due to the oil crisis and stricter emission standards.
3. Third generation, 1989-1994
After a gap of 16 years, the Nissan GT-R Skyline is back, this time with technology that prioritizes performance. The car called the GT-R R32 features the new ATTESA all-wheel-drive system, Hicas steering, and multi-link suspension at the front and rear. The RB26DETT 2.6-liter turbocharged inline-6-cylinder engine churns out 276 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration from zero to 96 km per hour takes 5.6 seconds and the quarter-mile is covered in 13.9 seconds. The wheelbase drops to 102.9 inches, but the length reaches 180.9 inches. The special version for the FIA Group A race put out about 550 horsepower and won the Spa-Francorchamps race on January 24, 1991. Total production was quite a bit of 43,394 units.
4. Fourth generation, 1995-1998
The fourth-generation using the name GT-R R33 is an evolution of the R32. Both use the same engine, but torque increases to 264 lb-ft. The 96 km per hour travel time drops to 5.0 seconds, but the bigger achievement is the 7:59 lap of the Nürburgring. The monster model R400 has 395 horsepower thanks to a larger turbo and an increase in capacity to 2.8 liters. Acceleration from 0 to 96 km per hour in four seconds. Launched in 1997, only 44 units of the R400 were made. For most consumers, the V.Spec model is the sportier choice, with a more rigid suspension, lower ride height, and active limited-slip rear differential. The R33 race cars earned the nickname Godzilla in Australia for their dominance over Ford and Holden V-8s.
5. Fifth generation, 1999-2002
The R34 generation of the GT-R benefited from the racing and testing carried out on the previous two generations. The car has 276 horsepower and reduced turbo lag, increased torque, and a new 6-speed manual replaces the 5-speed. The body is also more rigid, aerodynamics are improved, and some weight reductions include the use of a carbon fiber rear diffuser. The car is also shorter, as is the dangling front. The GT-R R34 was featured in several "Fast and Furious" films.
6. The sixth generation, 2008 to present
The Nissan GT-R R35 is an additional sixth-gen name with the well-known name Skyline. This car appeared in Japan in December 2007. It carries a new VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine that churns out 480 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The Hicas all-wheel steering system has been abandoned, as has the 6-speed manual, replaced by a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The R35 is now into the 2020 model year, and there's a special 50th-anniversary package to mark the milestone. The standard car produces 565 horsepower and the Nismo model produces 600 horsepower. The top speed is now 193 mph, and 0 to 60 is just 3.2 seconds. The standard model price is $115,235 and the Nismo model US$ 212,435
