Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 GT APEX Papercraft Model

Become increasingly popular since the Initial D film as a tofu seller vehicle. However, the inspiration came from the Drift King from Japan, Keiichi Tsuchiya, who popularized the act of speeding. With a relatively simple appearance, his Toyota Corolla AE86 Trueno can act perfectly in the drifting event. What's the inside like?

Special 4A-GE engine for AE86, the base is already tight

In the 80s, Toyota released the fifth generation Corolla (E80), and the AE86 was the sixth version of the fifth generation. The standard AE86 has been designed to be faster than the AE85 which has the same look and is rear-wheel-drive, the type is similar to the glaring light (Levin) or pop-up (Trueno), like Dori-Kin's aka King Drift.

AE86, using the 4A-GE engine, 1,587 ccs, while the AE85 with 3A-U, 1,452 ccs carbureted engine. No wonder many choose AE86 aka Hachi-Roku (86, Japanese), rather than AE85 (Hachi-go, 85) because apart from a fast engine, it is also equipped with a T50 transmission, 5-speed close-ratio, then LSD in the differential (optional), as well as disc brakes on the rear wheels.

Based on this, Keiichi Tsuchiya also modified it again. The Toyota 4A-GE innards engine was changed to produce better power. Several aftermarket components, from Toda Racing, fill the double camshaft space. The intake duration is 272 degrees, while the exhaust is 288 degrees.

Of course, other concoctions such as porting polished and several other things were done on the machine that uses the Toda Racing piston. The engine computer alias ECU uses Freedom which can replace 4A-GE's 4 throttles.

The power that has reached 175 hp is channeled through a 5-speed TRD transmission and forwarded to the rear axle with 4,778:1 final gear and LSD TRD (2-way).

The legs are the mainstay for this drifting action, the AE86 relies on devices from TRD. Like the special front-rear dampers for the AE86, springs with a spec of 8 kg (front-rear), as well as for the stabilizers and bushings using TRD.

7-inch wide Dori-Dori SSR rims with 15-inch diameter are paired with Bridgestone Potenza RE-01 195/50R15 tires, to tackle asphalt while drifting.
