Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! managed to surprise us by presenting stories and characters that are funny and entertaining despite having a familiar premise. From the line of characters who are badass but also lovable, there is also one character who often appears on social media and videos related to KonoSuba, Megumin. What makes Megumin so popular with the audience? Here are the points.
+ A fresh spin on “chuuni” character
Can a chuuni character in a fantasy world still be considered "chuunibyou"? The answer can be “yes” or “no,” but Megumin brings her uniqueness to the chuuni character trope. Can I tell if Megumin is speaking normally or is reciting her magic spell? Had he had more than one spell, I might have been confused.
Megumin doesn't just bring her chuuni dialogue and then gets tsukommi to the realities of the world, she brings her chuuni to show off her power. And to be honest, Megumin's abilities are no joke considering she mastered one of the most powerful magic in her world (even though it's the only magic she can use and has a lot of flaws).
+ EXPLOSION
For you, testosterone addicts and/or Michael Bay lovers, Megumin's (one and only) ability can be your new satisfaction for big bangs after Mythbusters is over. As mentioned above, Megumin's only special ability is super-large explosion magic, and Megumin herself is crazy about explosions. We don't need to be a Crimson Demon to be able to enjoy the thrill of seeing a super large explosion directly (from a safe distance of course).
But, yes, of course, you have to know the place and time, because a big explosion will do a lot of damage, not to mention you have to carry Megumin back after that.
+ The only character who proactively “closes” to MC
In the row of scumbag KonoSuba main characters, Megumin seems to be the only character who is interested in Kazuma. His concern for Kazuma in the anime is still shown subtly, such as how he calls Kazuma's name when he dies for a moment and also the blushing look he sometimes likes to show when talking to Kazuma which is often used as a .gif and floods the Facebook timeline.
Kazuma himself seems to be aware of this, but he doesn't seem to be trying to reciprocate his feelings (or he prefers a bovine body). What would you do if you were Kazuma?
– Useless after firing the Explosion
In addition to only being able to use her Explosion magic once a day, Megumin will also become weak and unable to move at all (once climaxing, she immediately becomes weak). If you become a party member together with her, it means that apart from having to pray not to be affected by the Explosion, you also have to take care of one of your friends who can't do anything.
– A bit of a jerk
Well, in KonoSuba, which the main character isn't a jerk (in a lovable way)? Maybe you didn't realize Megumin's bad side right away, especially when faced with the noisy Aqua and Kazuma who was more rotten than the others, but that also doesn't mean Megumin is innocent. Megumin had lied and bragged several times, both to satisfy her ego and to escape from an uncomfortable situation. Even technically, Megumin slandered Kazuma in a public place so that she could join Kazuma's party.
It's a good idea to be a little cunning like Kazuma who (usually) can control Megumin. Or do you still believe that Megumin doesn't need to pee?
