The Dallara IR-12 is a race car chassis used in the IndyCar Series, the premier open-wheel racing series in the United States. It was introduced in 2012 and has been used as the exclusive chassis in the IndyCar Series since then. The chassis is named after its manufacturer, Dallara Automobili, an Italian company that specializes in the design and construction of racing car chassis.
The IR-12 chassis is made of carbon fiber and features a single-seat design with a fully enclosed cockpit. It is powered by a Honda Indy V-6 engine, which produces around 700 horsepower. The chassis is equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and has a top speed of over 220 mph. The IR-12 chassis also features aerodynamic bodywork, including a large rear wing and front and rear diffusers, to provide downforce and improve stability at high speeds.
In addition to the Honda engine, the Dallara IR-12 chassis is also compatible with Chevrolet and Ilmor engines. The chassis has been successful in the IndyCar Series, winning numerous races and championships since its introduction.
