The Mikoyan MiG-31 (NATO reporting name: Foxhound) is a supersonic interceptor aircraft developed by the Soviet Union's Mikoyan design bureau. It was designed to replace the MiG-25 "Foxbat" and entered service with the Soviet Air Forces in 1982. The MiG-31 is a two-seat variant of the MiG-25 and has a larger wing and improved engines, which give it greater range and speed compared to the MiG-25.

The MiG-31 is equipped with radar and other sensors that allow it to detect and track targets at long range. It is armed with a variety of missiles, including the long-range R-33 air-to-air missile, which is designed specifically for use against other aircraft. The MiG-31 is also capable of carrying a variety of other weapons, including bombs and missiles for ground attack missions.

The MiG-31 has a top speed of Mach 2.83 and a range of over 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles). It has a crew of two, consisting of a pilot and a weapons systems officer (WSO). The aircraft has been used by the Russian Air Force and other countries, including Kazakhstan and the former Soviet republics of Belarus and Ukraine. It is expected to remain in service with the Russian Air Force until at least 2028.
