The current generation of anime fans might think that the title of the Black Swordsman belongs to Kirito from the Sword Art Online series. Even though that nickname has been held for a long time by Guts from the Berserk series. This is still understandable because Guts itself has existed since the 90s era, so most of the generations that year were familiar with this character created by the late Kentaro Miura.

1. Been a mercenary since childhood
Guts himself was raised by a mercenary named Gambino since birth and trained in the sword at the age of 6 years. Then he joined the mercenary group three years later under the leadership of his adoptive father. But it didn't last long because there was an incident where little Guts was abused by Donovan.
This incident then led Guts to find the harsh reality that he had been sold by Gambino to Donovan because he was considered bad luck. Reluctantly, the boy immediately killed his adoptive father so he had to run away from the group that raised him.
