Sailor Moon Lovers Must Know These 5 Facts about Sailor Mercury

The crime-fighting warrior in the Sailor Moon anime isn't just about Usagi Tsukino. Many characters in Sailor Moon have their respective roles and it feels incomplete if they are not discussed one by one.

One of the important characters that are quite popular in this anime is Ami Mizuno aka Sailor Mercury. What are some facts about this blue-haired warrior?

1. Originally, Sailor Mercury was meant to be a cyborg

Sailor Moon comic artist Naoko Takeuchi reveals one very interesting fact about her early notes for Ami Mizuno. Before Ami was perfected, Sailor Mercury was not a teenage girl with a genius IQ. Instead, she was a cyborg. That's why she's so smart and up to date with technology.

2. Sailor Mercury's dream was to become a doctor

Rei (Sailor Mars) is the first to voice her support for Ami, who has worked hard at school to become a doctor one day. Ami went to Germany to study.

When her friends finally drop her off at the airport, Ami chooses to turn around and continue to help her friends save the world. She decided to pursue his medical career at a later date.

3. Her strength is the weakest among all sailors

Sailors all have items that help them fight evil; their transformation pens, star power wands, and crystal modifiers. This group also has a communicator that they use to stay in touch when they are not in the middle of a fight. In addition, each soldier has their special equipment. Sailor Mercury doesn't have any magic tools like most other warriors. Instead, hers is technology-based.

Sailor Mercury is the only one with a personal computer that she can use to analyze enemies in the middle of a fight. The computer can also be used instead of a communicator to contact other sailors, although, in the manga version, she has a microphone attached to one of her earrings.

4. Ami Mizuno's bob hairstyle was inspired by 90s singer Noriko Sakai

Noriko Sakai was a pop star in Japan in the 90s, she made her debut in the entertainment industry at the age of 15 in 1986. She also appeared in films and television shows in the early 2000s.

Popular in several Asian countries outside of Japan, Noriko participated in several concert tours before turning to act and simply disappearing.

5. Sailor Mercury never kills

The English version of Sailor Moon is a little more ambiguous, there's no explanation as to whether the sailors actually kill every monster they fight or just deter them.

In the manga version, many scenes are more explicit and make it clear the sailors kill every monster they encounter. But the sailor who openly doesn't want to kill is Sailor Mercury because her character is gentle and full of compassion.
