Before Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon became a hugely successful anime, it started as a manga. And before the Sailor Moon manga, there was Codename: Sailor V.

This prequel manga focuses on Minako Aino, a teenager who struggles against a supernatural organization. She can transform into the superhero Sailor V with the help of a talking cat, Artemis.

When Sailor Moon was born, Minako was put into a team of heroes called the Sailor Guardians. Minako becomes Sailor Venus and she is one of Sailor Moon's protectors.

What are some facts about Sailor Venus which is identical to her long blonde hair?

1. Sailor Venus original elements

Many consider Sailor Venus to have an element of love because the Roman goddess Venus was the embodiment of love. But actually, Sailor Venus has elements based on light and gold.

Venus' active force indeed involves energy and light, but her real element is considered gold. This could be because the Japanese name for Venus is "Kinsei", which translates to "Golden Star".

2. Minako lives in London

If one only saw the original English adaptation of the 1990s anime, they would have missed the episode about Minako in London. When Minako meets an old friend - a London-based law enforcement agent named Katarina - Kunzite turns Katarina into an ally of the Dark Kingdom against her will.

In London, Minako struggles as Sailor V. She befriends Katarina who helps her learn English. Minako also meets a young man named Alan whom she falls in love with.

3. Minako Family

Unlike in the 1990s anime version, there are only glimpses of Minako's home life in the manga Codename: Sailor V. We know Minako lives with her mother and father, and they look like the parents of Usagi, Ikuko, and Kenji Tsukino.

Minako's father is said to have worked at a trading company whose job moved her and her family. That's the reason why Sailor V stayed in London for a few months in the 1990s anime. Otherwise, it seems strange that Minako's parents let her go to London alone.

4. Sailor Venus managed to kill Queen Beryl

In the 1990s anime, Princess Serenity and the spirits of the Sailor Guardians defeat Queen Beryl. But in the manga version, Sailor Venus kills Queen Beryl.

Using a legendary sword found in the ruins of the Silver Millennium, Sailor Venus subdues Queen Beryl.

5. Pronunciation of Minako's name

In Japanese, Sailor Venus' human name is Minako Aino. The Japanese character for "Minako" (įžŽåĨˆå) can also be read as "Binasu", which is how one pronounces or writes "Venus" in Japanese. And Minako's name "Aino" (愛) translates to "love". So, when "Aino" is combined with an alternative reading of Minako's first name (Binasu), her name can mean "Venus of Love".
