Facts About Sailor Pluto You Didn't Know
The Sailor Moon team consists of four core warriors who together go through battles against a great enemy and four outside warriors who aren't even aware of their existence until seasons two and three.
The first outer soldier to appear in Sailor Moon is Sailor Pluto, who is she?
All character names in Sailor Moon are related to their respective planets and their roles as warriors. Sailor Pluto's Japanese name is Setsuna Meioh. The word "Setsuna" translates to "moment" which directly ties into his role as a timekeeper.
Her last name, Meioh, is borrowed from the Japanese name for Pluto, Meiosei, and is spelled using the same first two kanji of the planet's name Pluto.
At the start of the series, Sailor Moon and all of them are 14 years old. Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune were the same age as them -- although they looked much more mature and Sailor Saturn was about 12 years old.
When Sailor Pluto appeared to Earth as Setsuna Meioh, she was a student and was estimated to be around 19 or 20 years old, making him the oldest of the warriors. This is if Sailor Chibi is not counted, yes, because she is more than 900 years old.
Many of the main, secondary, and additional characters in the Sailor Moon anime have the same skin color. This skin tone is the pale, graceful base color that seems to be the standard for most Sailor Moon characters. The only main character with different skin colors is Sailor Pluto who has a darker and more tanned appearance.
Fans are speculating why she might be more tanned than the other girls. And its creator Naoko Takeuchi has explained that she chose to give her a darker complexion simply because she felt this color suited her character's darker nature although she admits that initially, this color was difficult to execute in the manga.
It's no secret that Sailor Moon is the reincarnated Moon Princess because this is the point of the story. But Sailor Moon (Usagi) isn't the only princess; people often forget that each warrior is a princess of their planet.
Sailor Pluto is also Pluto's Princess and has a castle on her planet (okay, dwarf planet) called Charon Castle.
In many Sailor Moon stories, Sailor Pluto is referred to as the daughter of Chronos, the personification of time in Greek mythology.
Chronos is said to be a serpent with the head of a man, a lion, and a bull, which spawned several other gods including a daughter, Ananke who was the personification of destiny.
Pluto certainly doesn't physically resemble Chronos, but its ability to influence the flow of time does create a clear connection between the two.
